Have you ever unintentionally broken the law? is today’s daily writing prompt.
While I strive to be a conscientious law-abiding individual, it’s true that there are numerous wacky, obscure laws that I may have accidentally violated. If it was unintentional how in the world would I know? I do not even know how these peculiar or outdated regulations manage to stay on the books. Isn’t there some kind of annual review process like you would do policies and procedures that would clean those bizarre laws up so everyday rule followers are not inadvertently transgressing them? That could happen to anyone.
Otherwise, the only time I can think that I unintentionally break the law is once in a while when I am driving on the highway, moving with traffic, look down and am shocked to realize I am flying! So I have to slow it down. To remedy that, unless it is really congested, I usually use cruise control. The new cruise control that adjusts your speed based on the vehicle ahead can be helpful, though when I have it set to go the speed limit, then look down and realize I’m creeping – that’s super annoying too.
There you have it. Keep an eye on me. Though I try to stay vigilant with my speed and comply with traffic laws to the best of my ability, at times, I may inadvertently break the law. I am a real rebel! In my opinion speed violations should go to those truly wild drivers out there who are going recklessly fast, dangerously slow, or are obviously impaired, and leave the people who are just trying to get across town alone. But I understand, they are just doing their job, meeting their quotas, somebody has to pay for that new cruiser – might as well be me ;D
P.S. After reading some responses on the reader I am reminded of some other unintentional law breaking I have done. Walking out of a store with product and not realizing didn’t pay until later… or another time I pumped gas and went to work without remembering to pay, then got a call from my husband because the police had come knocking to track me down lol Hmmmm I may need to re-examine myself.
