I am joining in today for day three of Bloganuary with today’s writing prompt discussing what colleges I have attended. Most of my edumacation (yes, intentional) was so long ago that I will have to dig into the recesses of my brain to retrieve that information.

At that time, I wasn’t about to drop stacks (mainly because I did not have stacks) on applying to a bunch of schools or shelling out for on-campus living. So I threw my hat in the ring at the local schools I could just roll out of bed and commute to—Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati. Can’t beat that for convenience, eh?

Being a commuter totally changes the college experience. You’re not stuck in the campus bubble, you’re out there in the real world! It’s like living in two parallel universes. For me, it was like being a secret agent, balancing the academic world with the commuter life. Plus, my car became my second home—move over, campus dorms. Okay, maybe it wasn’t exactly like that, but when I bought my brother’s old Camaro, I couldn’t help but enjoy the thrill of driving it, although the speeding tickets that came with my adventures were a not-so-pleasant bonus!

I ended up getting a combination of college commuting experiences by completing my freshman year at Xavier University then completing my degree at the University of Cincinnati. Since then I have taken some online classes at Ohio University as well as completing some online studies at eCornell.

I have found I prefer sitting in a classroom over online classes, just like I like reading a book rather than reading digital ones. Either way has served its purpose and I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to take the time to expand my perspective on life and other subjects. The more I learn, the more I realize how easy it is to forget, and that what I think I know is just a drop in the bucket of all there is to know and learn.
