Strategies for Coping

Coping with grief during the holidays looks different in different homes:

  • Talk about your loss openly and honestly
  • Journal about your thoughts and emotions
  • Reflect on old photos and memories
  • Reminisce on lessons learned
  • Continue traditions
  • Start new traditions

It may require some work to be more aware of what you are feeling and when you are feeling it, in order to identify triggers for what may be making you feel the discomfort of feeling isolated or lonely.

Tips for Self-Care

Be patient with yourself and with others as you move forward.

  • ask for help
  • set limits
  • maintain a routine seek the positive
  • take it one day at a time.
